Underwood 4-Bank Portable (c.1928)
Item Number: UN-P002
In 1926, Underwood replaced its 3-bank model with an improved standard 4-row keyboard portable. At nearly 14 pounds with case, this machine is far more substantial than its predecessor, but it also boasts more durability and features. Followed the steps of its big brother Underwood No. 5, the Standard 4-bank inherits the speed, accuracy, and durability of the standard office machine, selling more than 1.2 million machines between 1926 and 1947 when production ceased, putting it alongside the Corona No.3 as one of the all-time best-sellers. The case dimensions are 12-1/4 wide by 12 deep by 5-1/2 high. In addition to the glossy black color, Underwood portables were also available in several handsome wood grain finishes.
